WolleWein The Fibre Co. Stockist Vienna

5 Things to do in Vienna, Austria if you love craft

WolleWien is a beautiful yarn store in Vienna and one of the stockists featuring the entire yarn range. Our friends Gertrud and Georges at WolleWien, are giving us the scoop on Vienna as well as showing us round their beautiful yarn store. They share their top tips for a city break in Vienna including where to meet other knitters and the best place to get your Apfelstrudel fix in the city.

WolleWein Yarn Store, Vienna

WolleWein Yarn Store Vienna

You’ll find WolleWien in the prominent Greek Orthodox Church building right in the center of Vienna. The opulent surroundings mean WolleWien is as fancy as yarn stores come but it’s a place in which creativity, expertise and communication is at the heart.

Owners Gertrud and Georges have many international friends and customers visiting the store. They say that their aim is …”to reach beginners as well as experts within a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. We love to design together with our customers who want their own unique custom-made garments and accessories”

WolleWein The Fibre Co. Stockist Vienna

WolleWien offers the full range of The Fibre Co. yarn, including Road to China Lace, Road to China Light, Meadow, Canopy Fingering, Cumbria Fingering, Cumbria Worsted, Knightsbridge, Acadia, Tundra, Terra, Arranmore, Luma and a soon to be announced new yarn from The Fibre Co. (coming soon!)

We asked Gertrud and Georges if they could recommend a few of their favourite spots in Vienna and they came up with these 5 things to do in Vienna if you love craft.

  • Make some new knitting friends – Every second Tuesday the Austrian Yarn Club meet at 6pm for a knit night at L’Ombra’s place, just 5 minutes from WolleWien. Everybody is welcome and if you are in Vienna on such a Tuesday you should not miss this occasion. For the dates please visit: facebook.com/yarnclubaustria/
  • Take a workshop – Not far from WolleWien you’ll find Stoss im Himmel, a nice studio offering contemporary jewelry and workshops where you can even create your own piece of jewelry.
  • Vienna’s best Apfelstrudel – Vienna is so famous for its coffee shops. Three very typical and charming coffee shops nearby are Kaffe Alt Wien, Cafe Korb and of course the very famous Café Hawelka. You might easily bump into artists who practically live there. Cafe Korb is well known for the best Apfelstrudel, Kaffee Alt Wien for its famous Goulash and Cafe Hawelka for their fabulous Buchteln.

Trzesniewski Vienna

  • Where to eat after all that yarn shopping –  You can find some typical Viennese Restaurants nearby at Gasthaus Pöschl where you can enjoy the famous Wiener Schnitzel or Tafelspitz. Another institution not to be missed is Trzesniewski (no one can spell this name!) This location has been around for 100 years and one goes there for a quick and very tasty snack (spreads) together with a Pfiff (very small beer).

Insider tip – Hidden Kitchen is where the locals go for a tasty, fresh lunch. It’s vegetarian-friendly and has vegan options too.

Shakespear and Compnay Vienna Book Store

  • Book lovers – Pay a visit to Shakespeare & Company it’s located in a charming area very close to WolleWien. If you’re a friend of books it’s a good idea to visit this store – you will love it.

Gertrud and Georges love their city and would be happy to talk to you about all the wonderful places to visit when you see them at WolleWien. Do stop by on your travels and say hello from The Fibre Co.
