Lowther – A Cardigan Knitting Pattern for all Genders
Lowther is a timeless cardigan knitting pattern for all genders, designed by Lotta H Löthgren in both The Fibre Co. Cumbria and Cumbria Fingering. Inspired by traditional workwear cardigans that typically have V-necks and buttoned closures, Lowther is a classic garment you’ll wear for years.
Cumbria and Cumbria Fingering are ideal yarn choices for a wardrobe staple like Lowther. They knit up into a soft, yet strong fabric that is perfect for everyday wear.
Our Cumbria blend was a big source of inspiration for Lotta H Lothgren’s v-neck cardigan pattern Lowther. It contains merino wool for softness, masham wool for a beautiful heathered effect and a little mohair for lustre and strength.
Lotta says, “My hope is that this will be a cardigan for all days and all times, one that will be mended and loved, maybe given patches when the elbows are wearing thin, and this it will age well with its owner.”

Now Available as a Kit
Lowther has a straight but not oversized fit and is knitted seamlessly from the top-down. It has short-row set-in sleeves and an elegant twisted stitch detail used on the shoulders, sleeves, back and front edges.
Kits include the yarn to knit your project in the size and colour of your choice, a pdf copy of the Lowther cardigan pattern and a bag from The Fibre Co. to keep your project in.

Knit the Lowther cardigan using Cumbria if you prefer heavier, worsted weight garments that are cosy and faster to knit.
