Balnaan Pullover Kit

This classic striped pullover designed by Emily Williams has a boxy, oversized fit and ribbed yoke. Super easy to wear, Balnaan is an instant staple for any handmade wardrobe.

This boxy sweater is knitted bottom up, seamlessly in the round to the underarm where the work is then divided to work the front and back sections flat. The back is shaped with short rows along the shoulder. The front incorporates a ribbed yoke. The shoulders are cast off together using a 3-needle cast-off. The sleeves are picked up in the round and knitted top-down, the ribbed neckline is picked up last.

The ribbed sections are worked using two strands of Luma in the same colour held together. The stripes are worked using one strand of Luma together with one strand of Cirro, with the shade of Luma changing every eight rows.

Emily has also designed a matching hat, which is a great way of checking that you get the right gauge before you knit the sweater or a fabulous way to use up the leftover bits of yarn from your pullover project.

The Fibre Co. Cirro (40% Suri alpaca, 40% organic cotton, 20% Merino wool, 225 m (246 yd) per 50g hank) in Divine (C) – 3 [4: 4: 4: 4: 5: 5: 5: 5] hanks.

Colours:

The photos show the pullover in the Luma shades Aizome (Colour A) and Chambray (Colour B) and Cirro shade Divine (Colour C). Choose Colour A (the ribbed neck, cuff and hem, and darker colour stripes held together with Cirro yarn) from the first set of colour swatches above titled ‘Select Luma Colour’ and Colour B (the lighter colour stripes held together with Cirro yarn) from the second set of colour swatches above titled ‘Select Luma Colour 1’ and Colour C (held together with Col A for dark stripes and Col B for light stripes) from the third set of colour swatches above titled ‘Select Cirro Colour’.
