Lady’s Mantle Pattern

Lady’s Mantle is a radial yoke cowl that is worked from the top-down like the round yoke of a roll-neck sweater. Lily France designed this cowl with short rows to dip the front and back, creating a cosy capelet shape. This chunky neckwarmer is perfect as a gift or small project to keep you or a loved one safe and warm.

Lady’s Mantle is the fourth pattern from The Almanac Series, a seasonal guide to knitting with The Fibre Co. yarns. This collection will feature a new design every month, each in a different yarn according to the qualities of the yarn to match the season.

YARN:
The Fibre Co. Tundra (60% baby alpaca, 30% Merino wool, 10% silk, 109 m (120 yd) per 100 g hank) in Baby Beluga and Boreal – 2 hanks

CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
The Lady’s Mantle cowl is worked in one piece from the top down. Stitches are cast-on for the neck and a long turtleneck is worked in 2×2 rib. This rib widens as increases are worked to shape the beginning of the ‘yoke’. After working in rounds for a short while, German Short Rows are then used to lower the front edge. Increases continue throughout the short rows. A smaller version of the front short row section is then worked at the back, before the whole item is cast-off with an I-cord edge.

One Size.

Finished measurements:
Circumference at neck: 45 cm (17.75 in)
Depth: 29 cm (11.5 in) at back, 39 cm (15.25 in) at front

TENSION/GAUGE:
20 sts and 23 rnds to 10 cm (4 in) measured over 2×2 rib after blocking using 5.5mm (US 9) needles.

• 5.5mm (US 9) 60 cm (24 in) circular needle
