About Lowenna

Lowenna is a celebration of spring colours, combining bright blooms, stripes and corrugated rib. Designed by Mary Henderson the pattern is available exclusively in The Knitter issue 174 magazine. It features stunning all-over stranded colourwork, a relaxed fit, and striped sleeves.

“I was inspired by spring flowers for this design, and used deep hues for the big flowers, and brighter sparks for the smaller ones,” explains Mary. “The borders are in a garter stitch corrugated rib, which gives a bit of weight to the drape, and the stranded colourwork gives body-hugging warmth. The front and back are worked separately – no steeking to avoid bulk and possible unravelling due to the silk content of this fibre blend.”

The front and back ribbed hems are worked separately in rows, then joined to work in the round to the armhole. At the armhole, the front and back are divided and worked in rows: the back is worked first, then the front with neck shaping. The shoulders are cast off together using a three-needle cast-off. The neckband is finished with a garter stitch stripe worked in the round. The sleeves are picked up around the armhole and knitted to the cuff.

The Knitter is a premium monthly British knitting magazine where ‘Enthusiastic knitters will find beautiful patterns to delight and inspire’.
