The One Series has been a defining part of my journey with The Fibre Co., starting with Daphne’s vision for the original One Sweater back in 2018. The idea was sparked by photographer Chris Blott’s "One Jumper" project, where he asked different people he encountered on his travels to be photographed wearing the same sweater. Daphne was captivated by the sense of connection the project evoked—a shared kinship that transcended individual experiences and highlighted a deeper sense of unity. This concept became the foundation for our One Sweater, a gender-neutral design available in 15 sizes, designed in Cumbria, our worsted weight yarn. Cumbria was developed to celebrate the community around The Fibre Co., making it the perfect choice of yarn to represent the spirit of togetherness that inspired the One Series.
The One Series
Building on the success of the original One Sweater, we expanded the concept with the One Sweater DK, adapting the pattern to suit four of our DK weight yarns: Luma, Lore, Acadia, and Arranmore Light. Then came the One Sweater Texture, which kept the classic Cumbria yarn but introduced a beautiful textured stitch pattern with simple, striking trim details. The final addition to the sweater series was the One Sweater V Neck, crafted by holding our Cirro yarn double with either Meadow or Arranmore Light, resulting in a sweater with an incredibly luxurious feel. Each version retained the same top-down raglan structure, demonstrating that the ‘One Sweater’ concept offers limitless possibilities.
To make these patterns even more accessible, we created a video series that walks knitters through every step of the process, making the One Sweater an ideal project for first-time sweater makers. You can explore all One Sweater tutorials here.
But we didn’t stop at sweaters. The ‘One’ concept has since evolved into the ‘One Series,’ which now includes the One Cardigan and One Sock designs. The latest addition to this series is the One Yoke, continuing the tradition of versatile and timeless knitwear.
One Yoke design development
My design process always starts with research, gathering inspirational images to explore shapes and forms that could be translated into beautiful knitting patterns. From the very beginning of the One Series, I knew I wanted to incorporate colorwork—it’s my favorite type of knitwear to design—so the colorwork version of the One Yoke was the first to take shape. The Lace and Texture versions, however, took more time as I worked through several swatches to find the perfect balance for each style.
All designs in the One Series are created to be timeless wardrobe staples, versatile enough for many occasions. For One Yoke, the challenge was to seamlessly blend three different fabric constructions into a cohesive top-down yoke sweater while maintaining a harmonious overall look. If you’ve seen the designs, you might have noticed a common thread across all three versions: the use of diamond and chevron motifs, inspired by the fells and peaks of The Fibre Co.’s beautiful Cumbrian home.
The three versions of One Yoke
Made with Lore
All three sweaters are crafted using Lore, The Fibre Co.'s 100% lambswool yarn. We choose Lore for its exceptional performance working stranded colorwork and textured stitches, making it the perfect choice for these three fabrics.
The construction
The uniform stockinette tension across the three styles means they share the same initial stitch count for casting on and working top-down from the neckline ribbing. From there, each yoke style diverges, allowing you to choose your preferred design direction—whether it's colorwork, lace, or texture. The styles then converge again at the lower yoke before the body and sleeves are separated.
Unlike the other One Sweaters, One Yoke is written for 9 sizes and features a more cropped body length. However, the pattern is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing you to easily extend the body or sleeves if you prefer a longer fit (just remember that the additional length will require more yarn than specified!). For the Lace version, I added subtle details to the body and sleeve hems, showing how small, thoughtful touches can enhance any design.
I hope this post inspires you to get creative with your own customizations—I can’t wait to see how each One Yoke takes on a life of its own! Whether you stick with the original designs or add your own personal touches, each sweater will be a unique expression of your creativity.
