The Fibre Co.: Our Story

The Fibre Co.: Our Story

It’s sometimes hard to convey just how much our love of natural fibres has informed our process at The Fibre Co. Despite over a decade of creating unique blends rich with texture and interesting structure, it is not always easy to pin down the exact quality we love best about a particular yarn. We choose fibres for many reasons from their softness and loft to their natural colour that enhances the colours specifically developed for The Fibre Co. range.

That’s why there is always so much joy in joining up with bloggers, podcasters and fellow makers who want to explore our story in more depth. Over the past year, Daphne (the founder and owner of The Fibre Co.) has shared her story of milling, hand blending and learning from producers all over the world. We would love to share some of those with you here to keep you company while making today.

A Playful Day:

This British based podcaster invited Daphne onto her show back in February not long after Daphne’s relocation to Cumbria. You can hear Daphne’s joy at her new surroundings and the back story to The Fibre Co., which all started with a mini mill and alpaca fibre. Find the episode here on A Playful Day’s website.

Curious Handmade:

Helen is an Australian knitwear designer based in London, UK who has worked with The Fibre Co. yarns in her own design work. When hosting The Muse Connection with Kate from A Playful Day, Helen invited Daphne onto the show as one of the event’s first supporters. You can listen to the interview here on Helen’s website.

Woolful:

Ashley has been providing fascinating interviews from the fibre community since this podcast launched over a year ago. Ashley is based in North Idaho where she lives with her family on 40 acres of land and hopes to create her own fibre mill. You can listen to the interview with Daphne on the Woolful podcast here.We so enjoy these opportunities to be able to share the love we feel for beautiful fibres and projects and we hope to hear your stories too. You can find us now on Instagram as @thefibrecompany. Please do join us there and share what you’re making. We’d love to see.
