At The Fibre Co., we love collaborating with indie designers by providing yarn for new designs. Whether you're an emerging talent or an established name, we welcome the chance to work together. Our collaborations help us reach a wider audience and achieve mutual goals with designers and stockists.
We believe knitting and crochet are for everyone. To ensure everyone feels welcome and included, we need representation at every level of the industry. We strongly welcome submissions from designers of all races, sexualities, gender expressions, abilities, ages, and body sizes.
We are honored to work with amazing designers who use our yarns and are eager to promote and encourage new talent.
What types of projects receive support?
We strive to accept as many requests as possible, but as a small brand, we carefully consider each submission to ensure the design has a good chance of commercial success. We also ensure it fits with our seasonal plans and inspires makers to enjoy crafting with our yarn. When preparing your submission, consider:
-
Cost-effective yarn quantity: does your design use an average amount of yarn for its type? Balance project affordability with an interesting and fun make. For instance, a sweater costing $500 might be beautiful but isn't likely to be popular.
-
Great images: high-quality photography is crucial for a design’s success. Requests showing high-quality images of past designs are well-received. New designers can check out our blog post on improving your photography.
- Widely available patterns: selling your patterns on accessible platforms is important for the maker community that stocks, promotes and uses The Fibre Co. yarns. Participating in Ravlery’s In-Store program allows us and our stockists to promote your work.
How do I request yarn support?
For each design idea, submit a one-page PDF with:
- Brief introduction to your work and your interest in the proposed design
- Sketch of the design idea (hand-drawn or CAD created)
- Description of the design's construction, intended ease, stitches used, and other key details
- Choice of yarn line and color suggestions
- Images of swatches (not required to be in The Fibre Co. yarn)
- Designer information:
a. Full name
b. Business name (if applicable)
c. Email address
d. Links to previous design work (website, Ravelry store, social media) - Timeline for launching the design
- Approximate yardage required
You may submit your proposal via email to yarnsupport@thefibreco.com.
What happens next?
If your application is successful, we stay in touch throughout your making journey. Our support doesn’t end once the yarn is shipped; we help promote your designs to the public and our stockists. Our support includes:
- Test knitter yarn discount
- Email to our public mailing list
- Promotion of your design to our stockists (if the pattern is sold on Ravelry and participates in the In-Store Program)
- Social media shares
- Discount coupon on yarn at launch to share with your audience
