For those who have mastered basic knitting techniques and are ready to expand their skills. Patterns may introduce slightly more complex techniques and patterns, such as shaping, increasing, decreasing or working multiple colors or easy lace patterns. The yarn weight may vary, and the patterns might introduce working with double-pointed needles or circular needles. Patterns will help knitters gain confidence and experience with new techniques while still working within a manageable level of difficulty.
Description
This gorgeous cardigan jacket features dramatically raised textures inspired by surface embroidery techniques. The raised diagonal pattern uses wrap stitches to create the impression of the cables being stitched to the knitting, which is mirrored on the front and back, with the lines meeting at the center. The underarms and sleeves are worked in stockinette stitch, and the cuffs are worked in the wrap stitch pattern, which frames the center pattern beautifully. Designed and knitted in our Acadia, a rustic blend of silk noil, baby alpaca and Merino wool, makes this project extra special and wearable for many years to come.
On how it’s done, designer Emma Vining says: ‘to knit the wrap stitch, a loop of yarn is pulled through from the back of the knitting, then knitted together with the two stitches it surrounds. For ease of knitting, wraps and cable movements are worked on alternate rows’.
