About Perennial

Perennial is a cabled sweater designed by Norah Gaughan features exclusively in the book, Worsted, A Knitwear Collection Curated by Aimée Gille of La Bien Aimée. There are so many details in this pattern that you will discover something new every time you look at it.

Here is what Norah wrote as the inspiration for this pattern:

“I developed the central cable pattern featured in Perennial a few years ago during a deep dive into inventing cable stitches. The pattern resulted from searching for an easy, albeit, abstract way to represent leaves. Two over two cables are combined with twisted stitches to make the leaves and leaf veins.

Inspired by Aimée herself and her love of cropped sweaters, the garment silhouette is great for wearing over dresses. I think the curved front makes this piece even more interesting.”

Perennial is knit in pieces, from the bottom up. The lower front is shaped with German short rows to be higher in the center. The body has an a-line shape, low crewneck and set in sleeves. Two over two cables are combined with twisted stitches to make the leaves and leaf veins on the front and back. The back has a straight cable panel, while the front cable panel expands gracefully to form a subtle yoke effect.

Worsted – A Knitwear Collection Curated by Aimée Gille of La Bien Aimée is a knitwear collection featuring 14 patterns by 10 incredible designers. The designers all have their unique style and speak to many kinds of knitters. Now they come together to form a beautifully cohesive collection. You can find garments such as sweaters and cardigans and accessories like shawls and hats, with techniques ranging from stripes and stranded colourwork to cables and textured stitch patterns.

This book features designs by the following designers: Nadia Crétin-Léchenne, Stephen West, Sylvia Watts-Cherry, Andrea Mowry, Tif Neilan, Saysha Greene, Norah Gaughan, Maxim Cyr, Nancy Marchant and Thien-Kieu Lam.
