Description
Ramble On are a cable-tastic pair of socks by prolific sock designer Heidi Nick. They are written for both toe-up and top-down knitting.
Heidi has said that she wanted to make a beautiful design using only simple elements. The contrast between the knit/purl border and garter stitch with the center diamonds is especially pleasing in this design.
The cable repeat is easy to memorize, making it a simple (but not too simple) knit. Combine that with a soft, warm yarn, and you have the "comfort food" of socks.
This is a good pattern to learn the cabling-without-a-cable-needle technique. Heidi uses the 'Fleegle' or 'strong heel', which is fun and easy, with no picking up stitches, and no holes at the corners. Trust the pattern and watch the heel appear like magic. The Fleegle heel works exactly the same in both directions (top-down or bottom-up).
