For those who have mastered basic knitting techniques and are ready to expand their skills. Patterns may introduce slightly more complex techniques and patterns, such as shaping, increasing, decreasing or working multiple colors or easy lace patterns. The yarn weight may vary, and the patterns might introduce working with double-pointed needles or circular needles. Patterns will help knitters gain confidence and experience with new techniques while still working within a manageable level of difficulty.
Description
Seen from the front, the Lake socks look like a classic rib sock but along the back, different textures swirl around each other — a cable, twisted stitches and a calliper pattern to frame the cable. A classic heel flap and the ribbed top ensure a good fit. The design speaks of the lakes that might seem calm, even though they are filled with life just below the surface.
The Lake Socks are knitted in lustrous Cumbria Fingering, a blend, made of Merino wool, Masham wool and mohair. This fingering-weight yarn creates soft yet strong fabrics, making it perfect for these cozy socks.

These socks are knitted from the cuff down in the round and feature a simple rib base with a cable and calliper stitch panel on the back of the cuff. Once the cuff is worked to the desired length, a heel flap is worked back and forth, and after shaping the heel with short rows, the sock is finished in the round. The toe stitches are grafted.
Instructions are given for the Magic Loop technique. If using DPNs, the first and second DPN will be “the first needle”, and the third and fourth DPN will be “the second needle”.
