Description

The spirit of the famous trail is captured in the texture of the Pacific Crest Trail Cardigan. Wavy cables bordered by narrow knit columns add just the right amount of interest to this modern take on a classic buttoned sweater. Truly versatile, this cardigan can be worn with everything from jeans to dresses.

The Pacific Crest Trail Cardigan is worked top-down with raglan sleeves, and is knit in Road to China Light—a beautiful blend of baby alpaca, camel hair, cashmere, and silk for a luxurious finished fabric. This project offers you opportunities to learn or hone useful techniques. Enjoy working on this engaging project, and wearing your lovely finished cardigan!

This pattern is also available as a kit, that includes 7–14 hanks of Road to China Light.

Yarn:

The Fibre Co. Road to China Light (65% alpaca, 15% silk, 10% camel, 10% cashmere, 145m (159 yd) per 50 g hank) in shade Apatite – 7 (8, 9, 9, 10, 10) (11, 12, 12, 13, 14) hanks.

Construction notes:

This cardigan is worked from the top down and incorporates short row shaping to lower the front neckline, while the yoke includes high raglan sleeves to ensure a great fit and ease of knitting. Optional short rows can be added to lengthen the back, enhancing comfort and wearability. Two charts are included for the cable pattern featured down the front of the cardigan, one for the left and one for the right side. For the collar and front bands, stitches are picked up along the neckline and front edges to provide stability and are worked in a 1×1 ribbing pattern. The Italian Tubular Bind-Off is recommended for a professional finish, although you can use your favorite bind-off method if preferred.
