It’s easy to envision the famous trail itself in the gorgeous texture of the Pacific Crest Trail Hat. With its deep foldover brim and wavy cables and narrow columns of knit stitches emerging on a reverse stockinette stitch background, this beanie is destined to be a treasured accessory.

The Pacific Crest Trail Hat can be made in three different sizes, with instructions included to easily adjust the height to suit the wearer’s preference. It’s created in Road to China Light, a luxurious sport-weight blend of baby alpaca, camel hair, cashmere, and silk, the perfect yarn for a beautiful fabric with a soft halo. You’ll truly enjoy this simple but engaging knit. Add a pompom for a little extra flair!

Yarn:

The Fibre Co. Road to China Light (65% alpaca, 15% silk, 10% camel, 10% cashmere, 145m (159 yd) per 50 g hank) in shades Hematite, Sunstone, and Riverstone – 2 (2, 2) hanks.

Construction notes:

This hat is knit in the round from the brim to the crown, beginning with ribbing at the brim that includes an optional fold line. Following the brim, the hat transitions into a cable pattern, which is provided with both written and charted instructions, including the crown. Additionally, a pom pom can be attached at the end if desired.

Finished circumference: 47 (51.5, 56) cm [18.5 (20.25, 22) in]
Finished height (brim folded): 21.5 cm (8.5 in)

Recommended ease:

Designed with 2.5 cm (1 in) of negative ease at head circumference.
Photographs show the hats knit in Size M on a model with a head circumference of 57 cm (22.5 in).

Gauge:

27 sts and 34 rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over stockinette stitch using 3.5mm (US 4) needles.
