Description

Inspired by the quiet beauty of winter coastlines, the Winter Seashore Stroll Kit showcases designer Jennifer Shiels Toland’s thoughtful approach to texture and form. As the fourth design in her beloved Sea Collection, it echoes the shifting patterns of sand and surf in a versatile cardigan-and-pullover pattern. 

Worked from the top down, the design features a sequence of matching textured stitch patterns on the yoke, hem, and sleeve cuffs that distinctly tie into the Sea Collection. Makers can choose between a cardigan or pullover, opt for a straight or shaped waist, and finish with either a garter-eyelet-pennant hem or a classic twisted rib. The yoke is shaped with short rows for a comfortable, well-fitting ribbed neckline, and cardigan knitters will enjoy the clean button band. With its customizable length and shaping options, this design is a versatile, wearable winter layer for any wardrobe. 

Cumbria, The Fibre Co.’s beloved worsted-weight yarn, is the perfect match for this textured, top-down design. Its blend of Merino wool, Masham wool, and mohair creates a fabric that is warm, durable, and softly lustrous. Cumbria’s excellent stitch definition ensures that every texture—from eyelets to pennant motifs to crisp ribbing—stands out with clarity, while its comfortable weight provides just the right balance of drape and structure for a winter cardigan or sweater. Recommended ease:

Cardigan: Designed with 5–13.5 cm (2–5.5 in) of positive ease at chest circumference. Photographs show the cardigans knit in Size 4 with approximately 11.5 cm (4.5 in) of positive ease.

Sweater: Designed with 5–11.5 cm (2–4.5 in) of positive ease at chest circumference. Photographs show the sweater knit in Size 4 with approximately 9 cm (3.5 in) of positive ease.
