Description

The Open Reef Sweater is inspired by leisurely days at the beach and laughter-filled moments with loved ones. With its flattering cropped fit, this crochet design boasts a gentle boat neck, bracelet-length sleeves, and a fan stitch trim around the neck. The lace fabric is created with the iris stitch, a simple single row repeat that offers a meditative crochet experience.

Designed in The Fibre Co.’s Amble—a mix of Easy-wash Merino wool and alpaca as well as recycled nylon—this sweater is not only soft to the touch but resilient and easy to care for. Wear it over a swimsuit for a sun-soaked day at the beach, pair it with jeans for a relaxed evening out, or layer it atop a crisp linen blouse to elevate your office look. Wherever it accompanies you, the Open Reef Sweater is sure to evoke fond memories of sandy shores.

This pattern is also available as a kit, that includes the PDF pattern and 3–6 hanks of Amble yarn.

Yarn:

The Fibre Co. Amble (70% Easy-wash Merino wool, 20% Easy-wash alpaca, 10% recycled nylon, 325 m (355 yd) per 100 g hank) in shade Seawall – 3 [4: 4: 5: 5: 5: 6: 6: 6] hanks.

Construction notes:

The Open Reef Sweater is crocheted from the top down, back and forth in rows from the shoulder to the armhole. The main body is worked as one piece in the round. The iris lace stitch pattern lends a gentle scalloped shape to the hem of the body without needing a hem treatment. The sleeves are worked from the upper arm to the cuff with sleeve shaping for a flattering fit. Once the pieces are worked and blocked, a fan stitch is worked around the neck opening for a flattering trim that mimics the scalloped edging of the body hem.
