Milk Thistle Pattern

Description

Milk Thistle is a textured kite-shaped shawl with a unique flower. The shawl has been designed so that each shade of Cumbria Fingering has a different stitch pattern; garter and stockinette stitch in Scafell Pike, herringbone stitch in Fair Hill and a stunning flower stitch in Blackbeck.

This pattern is also available as a kit, that includes the PDF pattern and 4 hanks of The Fibre Co. Cumbria Fingering.

Yarn:

The Fibre Co. Cumbria Fingering (60% Merino wool, 30% Masham wool, 10% mohair, 300 m (328 yd) per 100 g hank).

Modelled photos show Fair Hill (A) - 1 hank, Scafell Pike (B) - 2 hanks, and Blackbeck (C) - 1 hank.

Construction notes:

This shawl is knitted from one tip to the other. It is divided into two sections, the first is knitted in Herringbone stitch, and the second in Garter and Stockinette stitch. A floral pattern with stems and flowers is made with two strands knitted together. There is no seam, the flowers are knitted by pulling strands either with the needle or a crochet hook.

Gauge:

26 sts and 52 rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over st st before blocking using 3mm (US 2.5) needles for garter stitch.
30 sts and 22 rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over st st before blocking using 6.5mm (US 10.5) needles for herringbone stitch.
