Moon Phases Shawl Pattern

The Moon Phases Shawl, designed by Adella Dutra, is a full crescent-shaped shawl worked in simple but effective stockinette stitch, beginning with just few stitches in the heart of the shawl in the lightest colour and growing outward, increasing in size and depth of shade to the long external edge and darkest colour.

Made with 5 rich shades of Arranmore Light, this generously proportioned shawl wraps around you like a warm embrace and provides hours of soothing, meditative knitting.

YARN:
6 hanks of The Fibre Co. Arranmore Light (80% Merino wool, 10% cashmere, 10% silk, 300 m (328 yd) per 100 g hank) in Ailis (A) – 1 hank, Glasney (B) – 1 hank, Evlin (C) – 1 hank, Sheelin (D) – 1 hank, and Meara (E) – 2 hanks.

CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
The Moon Phases shawl follows a half-circle shawl construction. Shawl begins at the center of wingspan and grows in a semi-circular shape. Stitches are doubled every few rows at the start, and later at every color change.

SKILL LEVEL:
Beginner.

One size.

Wingspan along top edge: 155 cm (61 in)
Depth: 71 cm (28 in)

TENSION/GAUGE:
19 sts and 25 rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over st st after blocking using 4mm (US 6) needles.

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS REQUIRED:

• 4mm (US 6) 80 cm (32 in) circular needle (or size to obtain gauge)
• 2 stitch markers
• Stitch markers
• Darning needle
