Description
This beautifully detailed cowl features an array of patterns and textures that emulate fish scales, tails, and waves. Named ‘Anadrom’ after fish that leave the sea and migrate up rivers, this cowl is full of movement and cleverly placed details. The motif of a fish is created with twisted stitches, cables, and a passed over stitch fish scale pattern. Textured stockinette panels of increases and decreases create a wave pattern in the background of the fish motif.
Anadrom Cowl is knit in Cumbria, a worsted-weight yarn blend of Masham wool, Merino and mohair. The resulting fabric is soft yet sturdy, with an incredible stitch definition that makes this cowl’s all-over texture vividly stand out.
This pattern is also available as a kit, that includes the PDF pattern and 2 hanks of The Fibre Co. Cumbria yarn.
Yarn:
The Fibre Co. Cumbria (60% Merino wool, 30% Masham wool, 10% mohair, 216 m (236 yd) per 100 g hank) in shade Cowberry – 2 hanks.
Construction notes:
The Anadrom cowl is knitted top down in the round to the shoulders where gradual casting off begins at the center back to work the remainder of the piece flat. Once the back is fully cast off, short row shaping is used to create a rounded edge in the front. The motif of a fish is created with twisted stitches, cables, and a passed over stitch fish scale pattern. Textured stockinette panels of increases and decreases create a wave pattern in the background of the fish motif.
