We love to crochet all year round, but there is something about the summer that makes us want to pick up our hooks.
If you’re itching to start a new project, here are seven of our favourite crochet patterns released in the last few months using The Fibre Co. yarns.
Seven Modern Crochet Patterns to Make This Summer
Calliope Tote by Grace McCutcheon
This crocheted tote is the perfect size for all of your essentials (plus your latest WIP!) Grace McCutcheon’s Calliope Tote is crocheted tightly to create a dense fabric that almost looks woven. Stripes of Luma are scattered with playful bobbles – select your favourite colours and have fun! The bag is finished neatly with a lining and leather handles to ensure that you’ll be using it for many years.
Water Lily Shawl by Lisa Naskrent
Lisa
Naskrent’s Water Lily Shawl is an heirloom piece you will want to keep forever. Using clusters of elongated stitches that flow into pretty fans, you will create a delicate, drapey fabric that is perfect to wrap up in on cool Summer’s evenings. Our Road to China Lace yarn has a cult following, so if you’ve always wanted to try it, this is a great pattern to use – it only needs one hank!
Mitra by Mary Renji
We are in love with that crochet lace edging! Mary Renji has used our Canopy Fingering yarn to design her Mitra pattern: an asymmetric shawl with an intricate jewel motif along the edge. This yarn has so much drape coming from the alpaca and rayon, making it a perfect match for this pretty shawl.
Juniper Top by Dora Ohrenstein
This lacy cardigan is perfect for when you want a little coverage, but don’t want anything too heavy.
Dora Ohrenstein’s Juniper Top is lightweight and cool to wear in super-drapey Canopy Fingering.
Crocheted in one piece from the top down, this cropped jacket will look fantastic with summer dresses and high-waisted jeans.
Bird by Krista Wolf
This is such a sweet, versatile hat.
Krista Wolf designed Bird in Arranmore Light as a soft, squishy hat for Spring. We think it would also look wonderful crocheted in Luma to really emphasise that textural popcorn stitch.
It’s definitely a pattern we can see ourselves using over and over, all year round.
Lace Runner Poncho by Natasha Robarge
Wouldn’t this a be a wonderful piece to wear on the beach? Lightweight in Luma, Natasha Robarge’s Lace Runner Poncho features panels of open stitches in varying patterns. We love how the natural drape of Luma is emphasised by the openness of this crochet fabric – so luxurious!
The Compass Rose Beret by Naturally Nora
The Compass Rose Beret was one of three pieces designed by Naturally Nora as part of our Yarn Support Programme. You can read more about it in our interview with the designer. We particularly love this hat because it’s simple, modern and fun to crochet. Luma is a great yarn to crochet with and holds the stitches beautifully.
