Description

The richly textured Chunky Comfort Keeper Bag is the perfect place to hold very special things. It features lush cables, a moss stitch, a delicate zigzag seed stitch edging at the top, and a string closure.

Worked from the bottom up, the bag begins flat until a square is formed. Then, stitches are picked up around the edges and the bag is knitted from there in the round. A tubular rib is created at the top for running cord strings through. Knit in &Make Super Bulky, a 100% natural Highland wool single-ply yarn in spectacular colors, this fun project will keep you engaged from start to finish!

Yarn:

The Fibre Co. &Make Super Bulky (100% Highland wool, 80 m (87 yd) per 100 g ball) in shade Serious Shade – 4 balls.

Construction notes:

The Chunky Comfort Keeper Bag is worked from the bottom up in one piece. The bottom is worked flat and stitches are picked up and knit from the base before joining in the round. The body is worked using two different cable patterns. After the body, a tube is created where the cords are threaded through to close the bag. The bag is finished with a Zigzag Seed stitch pattern edge.

I have not knitted this yet

I have not knitted this yet. Looks like a fun knit. The pattern is very detailed which is nice but if I print it, it’s 27 pages. Is there a shorter version - maybe just the basic pattern?

Thank you so much, Janelli! You're right, it's a long pattern. We wrote it to walk knitters through every step with lots of photos, so there isn't a shorter version.

To save paper, you can print only the pages you need and skip the photo tutorials for any techniques you already know. Printing two pages per sheet, double-sided, also brings it down to about 7 sheets.

Personally, I knit from my patterns on my tablet or phone. It took a little getting used to at first, but now I wouldn't think of printing one, and being able to zoom in on the photos is a real bonus.

Happy knitting, and we'd love to see your finished bag!

Found that the keeper bag is way too saggy because the yarn is too soft for this project. The bag doesn't sit up nice, but rather just slumps over. Initially, I thought it would be nice to display on a coffee table when not working on my project. Now it's sadly put away until I resume my knitting.

Great little bag and a fun to make pattern.

This is a great way to use “stash” if you have it and just go ahead and get what’s needed. Its that good!

The wool I used was less firm than the one specified so the bag was pretty floppy, and it was also bigger than expected but I love all the carefully considered design elements and will make again. Also considering using the pattern as a template to make smaller bags with less stitches.

This is a great pattern and makes up into a pretty substantial bag! I began to use it straight away and am very pleased.

Incorrect yarn quantity, and a pattern typo threw a bit of a wrench into the shipping of goods, and more printing of keeper bowl pattern. Shipping was probably a hassle and extra expense for The Fibre Co., but their attention to my needs, and making it right, was so appreciated! Cheers, Daria R. Thanks to all who assisted!
