The knitted vest has long ago shed its image as being strictly for grandpas, but we are delighted to see that yet again the tank top is appearing on runways, in fashion houses and spotted in the streets being worn by celebrities.
Last month Grazier featured an article on supermodel Hailey Bieber being spotted backstage at one of her husband’s gigs in a sporty knitted vest and just last week Cosmopolitan featured an article highlighting the 17 best knitted vests in shops now.
But as dedicated knitwear fans we know nothing beats wearing one of your own creations and our latest release from The Almanac Series is the perfect knitted vest to wear on any occasion this summer.
Ginseng
Designed by friend of The Fibre Co. and long-time collaborator Sarah Hatton, Ginseng is a V-neck tank top packed with intricate details and is as fun to knit as it is to wear. The deep V creates a flattering fit whether it is worn on its own as part of a beach outfit, with a shirt or long-sleeved tee as part of a layered look for warmth or as a splash of colour over a dress for an evening out. And because vests and ‘muscle’ tees are set to be a trend this summer, we thought it would be fun to share a few more ideas for styling Ginseng to inspire your handmade outfits.
90s Vibes
The 90s were not only about plaid flannels and neon windbreakers—floaty floral dresses were a pretty option in a sea of grunge, and still look great with a cropped sweater over the top. A Discman is optional, but does add a bit of authentic historical flavour to the look!
Just Beachy
Summer sunshine means days at the beach and Ginseng will look great worn casually with the traditional beach uniform of shorts and sandals. You could even knit the long version a bit longer and Ginseng will make a great coverup for your swimsuit.
Glamour
French tuck a Ginseng into high-waisted, wide-leg trousers for a little glamour for your evening, and throw a structured blazer over the top as the night gets cooler.
Of course Ginseng is a very wearable design and will also look great with jeans, in just the way we have styled it in our own photoshoot.
How will you wear it? We are always keen to share ideas and of course if you are knitting a Ginseng, we would love to see it! If you are sharing on social media, please use the hashtags #MadeWithTheFibreCo and tag us @thefibrecompany.
The Almanac Series
Ginseng is the ninth pattern from The Almanac Series.
Based on the original farmer’s Almanac guide to the seasons, this collection acts as a guide to knitting with The Fibre Co. and celebrates each month of the year by giving knitters the chance to sample our Yarn of the Month, with a new design launch.
In the second half of our first series, we cover the Spring Summer season, where each month’s yarn has been specifically chosen for its qualities to compliment the seasonal conditions. February is the month of Cirro, March is Acadia, April is Canopy Fingering, May is Luma, June is Amble and July is Meadow.
May is the turning point of spring into summer and is a month full of life. Luma is this month’s yarn because it is simply perfect for creating light layering pieces that people want in their wardrobes at this time of year. The plant-based fibres of organic cotton and linen are mixed with silk and fine Merino wool to provide warmth when it is cool yet be light enough for warmer climates.
Ginseng is a versatile design, knit in a versatile yarn and we can’t wait to see how you wear it well!
