Description

Chasma is a boxy, oversized cardigan with blouson sleeves and a deep V-neck. Knitted up in a gauzy fisherman’s rib, it uses a modular, join-as-you-go, construction from the top down. Designed by Becky Baker in primarily Cirro, she introduces an end of Canopy Fingering into the ribbed trims for extra structure and softness. This is the perfect cardigan to snuggle up in as soon as the temperature drops.

Yarn:

The Fibre Co. Cirro (40% Suri alpaca, 40% organic cotton, 20% Merino wool, 225 m (246 yd) per 50g hank) in shade – Enchanting 5 [5: 6: 6: 6: 7: 7: 8: 8] hanks and The Fibre Co. Canopy Fingering (50% baby alpaca, 30% merino wool, 20% bamboo, 183 m (200 yd) per 50g hank) in Wild Ginger – 1 [1: 1: 1: 2: 2: 2: 2: 2] hanks. Our yardage given includes enough to knit an 8” x 8” gauge swatch.

Please note: Our fingering-weight yarn Canopy Fingering has now been discontinued.

Construction notes:

This boxy oversized cardigan is knitted top down with a modular join as you go construction - starting with the back right shoulder, followed by the left back shoulder, these are then joined together by casting-on back neck sts. The left front shoulder is then knitted with incorporated neck increases and the same is repeated for the right. Once the required measurements are reached, the two front and back body panels are joined together and continued in one piece. The overall pattern is knitted in a lofty 1x1 Fisherman’s Rib with 2x2 rib trims that introduce an end of Canopy Fingering for added texture and structure. The full blouson-shaped sleeves are picked up and knitted in the round and also follow the fisherman’s rib pattern.
