Balnaan Hat Pattern

Description

Balnaan Hat is a classic striped hat designed by Emily Williams. It is super easy to wear and an instant staple for any handmade wardrobe. What’s more, it is a great way to use up leftover bits of yarn from knitting the Balnaan Pullover.

This pattern is also available as a kit, that includes the PDF pattern, 1 hank of Luma, and 1 hank of Cirro.

Yarn:

The Fibre Co. Luma (50% Merino wool, 25% organic cotton, 15% linen, 10% silk, 125 m (137 yd) per 50 g hank) in Aizome (A) - 1 hank and Chambray (B) - 1 hank
The Fibre Co. Cirro, (40% Suri alpaca, 40% organic cotton, 20% Merino wool, 225 m (246 yd) per 50 g hank) in Divine (C) - 1 hank

Construction notes:

Knit from the ribbed brim, worked using two strands of Luma held together, through the striped section worked with one strand of Luma together with one strand of Cirro, with the shade of Luma changing every eight rows, to the pompom, which perfectly uses up any extra yarn scraps left over.

To fit a head circumference of: 47.5–50 [52.5–55: 57.5–60] cm (19–20 [21–22: 23–24] in)

Recommended ease:

Designed with 2.5–5 cm (1–2 in) of negative ease.

Gauge:

16 sts and 23.5 rnds to 10 cm (4 in) measured over st st, using one strand of Luma held together with one strand of Cirro, after blocking using 5mm (US 8) needles.
