Pelagic means ‘of the open sea’ and is the design inspiration for this cosy sleeveless cardigan. The travelling ribbed stitches on the front recall the endlessly lapping waves of the sea, and the back is made up of stockinette stitches, combining to create a garment of contemporary style and ease. The front and armhole bands are worked as you go, so there’s no picking up of stitches at the end; just the back neck band is worked from live stitches and grafted once the shoulders are seamed, for a flowing, elegant effect.
Pelagic Cardigan is knit in Tundra, an irresistibly warm and soft blend of baby alpaca, Merino wool and silk. The sumptuous bulky yarn, the minimal shaping, and a deceptively simple stitch pattern make this sleeveless open cardigan a joy to knit.
