About Demat

The Demat Socks are a sweet pair of socks from French designer Emma Ducher.

Emma says: ‘I knitted these socks in Brittany, a beloved French region. There, I am always inspired by the colors and the light in the landscape. These socks are called Demat, which means Bonjour in Breton language, the most basic word to start a conversation!
Demat has a fancy pattern made of small cables and lace along the whole length. They are worked from the top to the toe, starting with a 1×1 rib pattern. After the leg, the stitches on the front of the foot are put on hold to work only the heel and the bottom of the heel. Stitches are then picked up on the sides of the heel and worked again in the round to the toes, now knitting the bottom of the foot. The socks are finished with decreases for the toes and the toe is closed with grafting.’

This design is a collaboration for The Fibre Co.’s ‘Month of Socks‘ – a celebration of all things sock in June, with a full schedule of classes, loads of new socks designs to inspire and encourage sock knitters.

• 2.5mm (US 1.5) circular needle or double-pointed needles for working a small circumference in the round (or size to obtain gauge)
• 3.75mm (US 5) 80 cm (32 in) circular needle (or size to obtain gauge)

• Stitch markers – two standard ones.
