Winter Wonderland Pillow Kit

This pillow is a classic design with a fun and unusual construction. Inspired by the pristine beauty of snowy landscapes, Kay Hopkins has designed this pillow to complement her wonderful Winter Wonderland Shawl. The stunning textured colourwork is achieved through a few simple garter short rows that don’t require any special turns. A contrasting i-Cord seam around the edges provides a neat and decorative finish, and can easily be opened on one side if you ever need to take the cover off. You also have the option to knit the back in plain stockinette or reverse the colours from the front. Add a touch of comfort and festive spirit to your home with this beautiful pillow.

The wool and alpaca fibres in Amble have been treated with the Easy-wash process, ensuring that this yarn can be machine-washed without shrinking. Amble is a soft, fingering-weight yarn that’s easy to work with. The addition of recycled nylon provides strength to create a lovely long-lasting pillow.

Yarn:

The Fibre Co. Amble (70% Easy-wash Merino wool, 20% Easy-wash alpaca, 10% recycled nylon, 325 m (355 yd) per 100 g hank) in shades Blackbeck (MC) – 1 hank and Isel (CC) – 1 hank.

Colours:

Photographs show the darker pillow in shades Blackbeck (MC) and Isel (CC). Choose your MC from the first set of colour swatches above and CC from the second set of colour swatches.

It is recommended that you choose a pillow form or batting after making your cover, which is 2.5–5 cm (1–2 in) smaller than what the cover measures.

Needles and notions required:

• 3.5mm (US 4) 70–80 cm (29–32 in) circular needle
• 3.25mm (US 3) 70–80 cm (29–32 in) circular needle
• Stitch markers
• Yarn needle to weave in ends
• 1 small bead
• Pillow form or batting

Please note: if your needles are not interchangeable, you may also want a 3.25mm (US 3) needle on a short cable and a long stitch holder or waste yarn.
